Endogenous Approach of a Frequency-Constrained Unit Commitment in Islanded Microgrid Systems

Power reserves are usually scheduled in day-ahead unit commitment (UC) to minimize operating costs while maintaining system security. In applying basic UC (bUC) after a contingency, the frequency may fall upon activation of load-shedding global control (under-frequency or UFLS) limits. Small isolated microgrids more sensitive this issue due their lack inertia. Including dynamic considerations into bUC problem can UFLS and also avoid need for operator later check short-term feasibility solution. These proposals known as Frequency-Constrained (FCUC), although implementation very time-consuming. FCUC will increase system’s operational costs, which should be calculated estimate remuneration safety service based on additional reserve provision. The electrical Gran Canaria island has suffered several episodes greater blackouts recent years. Shortly, there 242 MW wind generation installed (26% thermal power Canaria). main objective work is improve reliability by means an formulation applied practice, including renewable sources. results show that values remained within admissible boundaries, but increased around 13%.
